The fluorescent gene in glofish is passed from one generation to the next. They don’t need to undergo a painful dying process like painted glassesfish to get those vibrant, happy colors. They are born this way. Does that mean that glofish eggs are just as bright as their parents? How do glofish eggs look?
Check out the video below!
What do Glofish Eggs Look like?
Glofish eggs look like regular fish eggs. They are neither brightly colored nor glow. They are tiny spherical balls that measure less than 1 millimeter in diameter. They are almost translucent and white. A glofish betta’s eggs look just like regular betta’s eggs. It’s the same with the other 4 species.
Here’s a video showing glofish eggs being laid, and then eaten. A clip also shows a single egg hanging from a plastic plant.
Sorry to be a party-pooper. That’s it.
These eggs do not ‘hatch’ because they lack shells. A glofish’s eggs do not hatch or develop in the same manner as chicken eggs or snake eggs.
Instead, eggs grow tiny parts when the yolk sac is eaten.
What do Glofish Tetra Eggs Look like?
Glofish tetra eggs look like regular tetra eggs. These spherical, clear balls are slightly smaller than 1 millimeter in diameter. These tiny, clear balls have a black dot that indicates the eggs were successfully fertilized.
In one session, Glofish Tetras can lay 60 to 130 eggs. The adhesive eggs stick to the yarn mop, leaves, moss or leaves. Non-adhesive eggs will pass through the structure and sink to the bottom.
Glofish tetras also consider their eggs food, just like other tetras. If you’re looking forward to tiny fluorescent babies, it is a good idea to immediately remove the parents.
What do Glofish Danio Eggs Look like?
Glofish Danio eggs are round, clear balls that look a lot like glofish Tetra eggs . They are slightly smaller than 1 millimeter. They are jelly-like in consistency.
They look almost exactly the same as regular zebra danio eggs.
This is a photo of the eggs of the zebra danio:
Glofish danios can be egg scatters. Once their eggs have spawned, they eat them immediately. Even though your danios may produce 300-400 eggs per breeding season, only a small percentage will reach adulthood.
A fertilized glofish Danio egg contains three components: a single cell (a yolk), and a protective membrane known as the chorion.
This video shows the entire process of developing zebra danio egg from conception to maturity.

What do Glofish Barb Eggs Look like?
Glofish barbs are the illuminating descendents of tiger barbs. Glofish barb eggs contain the fluorescent gene. However, they are just like regular barb eggs.
In one breeding season, Glofish barbs can lay between 150 and 200 eggs.
Glofish, however, are not egg scatterers like other barbs. They also love to snack on their own offspring. Most eggs never see daylight. Few eggs survive to become adults.
What Does Glofish Betta Eggs Look like?
Glofish betta eggs measure approximately 1 millimeter in size. They are almost translucent and white with an oval shape. These eggs look identical to regular betta eggs. These eggs are not glowy or brightly colored at this stage.
Tiny grayish-black specks will appear on fertilized eggs. Unfertilized eggs will keep their original form, but they’ll soon develop fungus, if not eaten.
After the female has laid her eggs, the male will take them back and place them in the bubble nest. The male will chase the female, and then watch the eggs until they turn into little fry.

What do Glofish Shark Eggs Look like?
Unfortunately, the internet doesn’t have any information or photos of glofish shark eggs. These fish can be difficult to breed in captivity. To encourage these fish to breed, breeders use gonadotropic hormones.
However, I was able to observe eggs from other species and conclude that their eggs look similar to oval, translucent balls. They are larger than 1 millimeter, this time.
What Do Baby Glofish Look Like?
Baby glofish are just like other baby fish. They can glow under fluorescent lights and develop beautiful colors. They look just like the adult children, but as juveniles.

Glofish Eggs Hatching Time – How Long Does It Take?
The eggs of the Glofish don’t hatch. Instead, eggs are transformed into different parts of the body. This process takes 24-48 Hours.
Research has shown that raising the temperature can increase the speed of the process. But, it is not recommended for home aquariums.
Let nature decide for itself.
Where Do Glofish Lay Their Eggs?
We are sorry, but we don’t have any information on glofish rainbows. The remaining four glofish species, barbs , danios , tetras , and bettas are egg scatters . Their eggs will be easily scattered among plants and gravel.
Some eggs will stick to plants while others will sink to the bottom. If they are lucky, they will not be eaten.
How Fast Do Glofish Grow?
Glofish grow at the exact same rate as their regular counterparts.
Glofish bettas usually take 7 months to fully develop. Glofish tetras, which are late bloomers, can take up to 2 months to reach 1/4 inches in length. Glofish barbs can grow quarter to half an ind every six weeks. It takes 6 weeks for glofish danios to grow 1 inch.
These are only estimates. The speed and size of their growth depends on the temperature, pH, space, diet, exercise, and other factors.
Glofish Eggs Fertilized – How To Know?
There is no way to tell if the eggs of glofish have been fertilized. The best practice is to inspect eggs carefully for small specks that look like eyes.
Final Words: What Do Glofish Eggs Look Like?
Although glofish are as magical as they look, their eggs can be quite simple and, dare i say, boring.
They look almost identical to their parent species’ eggs – small, transparent, translucent and nearly white.
Glofish eggs do not glow because they contain the fluorescent gene that gives them their magical glow. They don’t have any color.
The egg’s development is identical to that of the original species.
